From Hive to Home

Our bees spend part of the year pollinating California almond orchards before returning home to Minnesota for honey season. It’s a unique journey...and one we’re proud to share.

Follow along as we care for our hives through the seasons and turn their hard work into the honey you enjoy at home.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our honey varieties or beekeeping practices? Find answers to common inquiries below.

Honey Information

Does honey ever go bad? Honey doesn’t spoil. It can crystallize over time, but it’s still perfectly good to eat.

My honey has become hard, how do I soften it for use? Place the jar in warm (not boiling) water and gently stir until it returns to a smooth, pourable texture.

What benefits are there to eating local honey? Local honey is a naturally antioxidant-rich, minimally processed sweetener that supports immune health, digestion, throat comfort, and steady energy, and is often included in seasonal wellness routines due to its trace local pollen content.

The Honey Process

How many bees are in a hive? A healthy hive can have anywhere from 20,000 to 60,000 bees during peak season.

How often are we stung? Less often than you’d think. Calm bees and good habits go a long way, but yes, stings are occasionally part of the job.

How do we transport bees to California? Each winter, our hives are safely loaded onto a semi truck and head west to California, where the bees pollinate almond orchards in early spring before returning home to Minnesota for honey season.
